Multichannel selling is the commercial hook. The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is the defensive moat. Publishing across many channels sells, but anyone can replicate a multichannel catalogue in an afternoon. What cannot be replicated is the persistent identity of each item —who made it, from what material, what maintenance it received, how many owners it had—. That identity is the defensible half; multichannel is just the entry door to the registry.
The problem, seen correctly
A handcrafted object loses its identity the moment it leaves the workshop. Without identity there is no trustworthy secondary market, no confident resale, no circularity — and the value of craftsmanship evaporates at the first resale. Multichannel publishing solves the visible half of the problem, which is exactly the half anyone can attack. The other half —the identity that travels attached to the physical item, not to the seller’s account— is the defensible one.

A listing migrates to another provider in an afternoon. A years-long traceability history lives bound to the physical product, not to the seller’s account. That is the real network effect: on the product, not on the user.
The real state (no dressing up)
The claims frontier, stated plainly: the platform is in real production in silver jewellery —thousands of items, with a database as the source of truth and multichannel propagation; a capture → AI → publishing pipeline running end to end; digital certificates with verifiable QR; and lifecycle events in GS1 EPCIS 2.0—. That proves the architecture is product-agnostic: only the attribute profile changes by category.
The textile case is built on that same architecture and is today a work-in-progress demonstrator —not a case already operating with real textile companies—. The distinction matters: the capability is proven; textile is the next category, under construction.
The regulatory tailwind: ESPR
The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR, EU 2024/1781) will require Digital Product Passports by category, and textile is among the priorities. Reaching that requirement with years of real EPCIS 2.0 data in production places the platform where almost no one is. It is not a bet on a promise: it is capability already built, waiting for the rule to catch up.
Depth of conformance — and honesty about the gap
Authority is not in promising, but in technical depth on open standards:
- GS1 EPCIS 2.0 for lifecycle events, as a portable document (self-describing XML + PDF with the XML embedded).
- Verifiable credentials (
did:web): every attested attribute carries a signature a third party can check cryptographically. - GS1 Digital Link (EN 18219): a scannable identifier that resolves to the passport.
- API specified to standard (EN 18216 / EN 18222, OpenAPI): interoperable by design, not bilateral. Specified — not yet certified.
And here is the most honest part: every attribute carries its epistemic level —declared · attested · verified · measured— and its issuer. The passport shows the gap between what the framework will require and what is achieved today. Composition, for example, is today declared, not measured: the system is already prepared to ingest accredited-lab results when that phase arrives, but we do not claim anything is measured yet. Showing the gap is not a flaw — it is exactly the honesty the framework demands.
The right analogy
It is not “the Shopify for artisans” —that is the commoditisable layer—. It is closer to GS1 + Carfax for artisanal manufacturing: the registry where each item’s identity is born and the history that determines its value throughout its life. Multichannel selling is how items enter the registry. The registry is the company.
